Major Nelson: Xbox 360 guide faster after next update
Xbox Live spokesman Major Nelson said on his show this week that the next update for the 360 would increase the speed of the guide. “Whatever we call it (and it’s not going to be called the NNXE), but whatever the next version of the dashboard is called, it’s better with a lot of very cool new features,” he said. “That update will be out later this year.” We figure that the update will probably be release during the fall, right before the Christmas shopping season.
Speaking in his latest podcast, the Major confirmed: “We are making the guide faster,” and that he’s been “intimately involved” in it development, being such an active user and all.
“The team has done some really good stuff around making performance enhancements,” he said, adding: “‘Performance enhancements’ doesn’t sound right because it sounds like we’re going to give the guide a little blue pill, and we’re not doing that.” I think this new talk about a major update bring up an interesting question to our viewers: what updates would you still like to see to the dashboard? Ok, here's the first crazy idea: I want the performance upgrades NOW. I don't care about the new features that will be added in the fall. The fact is that the problems with the UI make it very difficult to try out new demos, Arcade, and Community games and I'm SICK TO DEATH of waiting about 45 seconds every time I go to my games list after downloads/deleting a trial, etc. FIX IT NOW. Get rid of those STUPID avatars… Or at least make them less childish and idiot looking… If i wanted a frigging wii i would have bought one! Also i want the option of changing the layout of the dashboard… i.e be able to change the colours etc. And when i put up a wallpaper i want to be able to see all of it, not have the bottom hidden by that annoying grey part at bottom of the dashboard. And maybe this last part is me being stupid… but whenever for example a friend brings round a game we fire it up play for a few hours… he goes home… I'm left with the game details on my dashboard/score board thing. Which is very annoying as it's not my game and i can't seem to get rid of the information. Thank you
